As noted in the introduction to Services, our people have significant experience across the surveillance domain in a number of disciplines. We can provide independent consultancy in the following areas;

Complex Fault Finding

Radar faults can be difficult to isolate due to their complexity without the appropriate analysis tools. Our field personnel have numerous years of radar experience and are highly trained in the use of RASS, which is specifically designed for this purpose.

Combination of years of experience and specialised tools, our field personnel can perform in depth analysis of the radar to be able to identify the fault.

On-site mentoring

On-site mentoring (coaching) can be an effective and efficient way to introduce new skills to your engineers/technicians whilst simultaneously addressing any site specific problems with your radar's performance.

Our field personnel are knowledgeable and experienced in radar processing techniques and 'real world' application in relation to radar tuning (optimisation).

This in effect provides real time practical training, whilst addressing any site specific problem and on their radar.

Configuration Auditing (Performance, Hardware, & Software)
A Performance Configuration Audit expands on the typical management and visibility in Configuration of a radar. Whilst it is common to manage the Hardware and Software configuration of a radar, it is far less common to understand the Performance configuration (also known as Standard Operating Condition - SOC).

Maintaining a physical baseline for the operational performance of your radar will reduce the risk of unexpected degradation in the performance of the radar for ATC use.

Performance configuration refers to the parameters that establish how the radar is physically tuned for operational performance. Depending on the age and type of radar, these include, but not limited to;

  • DIP switch and/or Link settings on a particular circuit card that affect the radar performance (e.g. Azimuth alignment)
  • Measured values (e.g. VSWR, Phasing, Power Values, etc)
  • Software parameters within a Software file that affect the radar performance (e.g. STC, CFAR, etc)
  • Baseline Clutter Maps
  • Beam and STC switching points
  • Specialised Zones (e.g. Track Inhibit, Sector Blanking, etc)

Having a known physical baseline of your radar will assist your maintenance personnel, maintaining the radar (e.g. replacing circuit cards, loading new software, replacing rotary joints, etc).

Regular auditing (recommended annually with other performance evaluations) will ensure that the physical performance baseline can be maintained.

Independent Verification and Validation for all Acceptance Testing phases

Ensuring that all of your technical and performance requirements are met during the procurement of your new radar system is fundamental across the project delivery. This can also be quite daunting for buyers less experienced in systems engineering practices, industry standards and core knowledge in radar principles.

Our people can ensure that all of your agreed specifications are met across each phase of delivery of your radar system – FAT, SAT and Flight Testing.

We will attend the relevant testing phase with you as your representative. Alternatively, to free up your time, we can attend the testing by ourselves.

Our people can further ensure that maintenance tasks (e.g. rotary joint replacement) has not degraded the performance of your radar, by being your representative to verify the radar's performance pre major maintenance works (to baseline the system) and post major maintenance works (verify that the radar has not degraded).

Radar Optimisation
Our field personnel have numerous years of radar experience in a number of different radar systems, from various manufacturers. With the aid of our radar knowledge and specialised tool, we can assist your maintenance personnel to optimise the radar to meet the various requirements to which the radar needs to perform.
Radar Coverage Modeling
A number of factors affect the performance of a radar – one of these is Line-of-Sight (LOS). We can provide coverage models that can assist with;
  • Siting of a new radar to ensure the desired coverage is achievable

  • Analysis for engineers/technicians into issues raised by Operators in actual/perceived loss of detection
  • Affect of coverage due to development within the existing coverage volume (e.g. new buildings)
  • General coverage for existing radars

Coverage Models can be created displaying coverage limitations at any desired altitude and any Lat/Long.

Change Management
Our knowledge from conducting operations within a risk averse environment can aid in the introduction and approval of new processes in a controlled manner. Customers seeking to introduce changes and processes, such as;
  • Supply governance into the way the user monitors, evaluates and analyses their surveillance aids,
  • Engineering Management against applicable standards
  • Periodic Performance Evaluations or Configuration Audits
